RE: Generator 2.0 by elvenwanderer 15 years ago

I think it would be lovely if we could click the knots instead of typing row by row. What I'm kinda saying is like in the game Minesweeper (I realize not everyone may know what this is), where you click once on a square and it turns into something, then click again and it turns into something else. In this case, on the diagram you'd click on the knot, and it would go from a fk to a bk, to a f/bk to a b/fk, and such, changing the rest of the pattern accordingly.

If this weren't possible in the original input of the pattern, it would be nice as an edit option, so you don't have to search through the lines of code.

I'm pretty sure it would be very complex to accomplish, but that's fine.

I don't see the problem with the non-knot, though. Here's a pattern from Heather's page that I remade with the pattern generator and paint (for editing): http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff116/Olympe_Bracelets/Heather/2.jpg<br>Maybe you could do something like that with the generator?

I like the idea with the minesweeper thing, elvenwanderer. Maybe I can make something like that in flash. I'll see what I can do.

RE: Generator 2.0 by Olympe 15 years ago

Yes, the idea with minesweeper has occurred to me, too. At least over night. :) Although I thought of something less complicated. See, you could use a highlighting option. If you click on a knot, the letter representing it gets highlighted. (Or maybe the other way round? Or both ways?) This alone would be a great help for editing.

Another idea is this: I already use the 'repeat steps x to y function' (eg copy and paste the lines in question) while creating patterns. You cuold also add a function for symmetry axes (horizontal(vertical). So, you want to knot a square. If you declare a vertical symmetry axis, you only have to type in the knots for the left half (including the middle). If you had the option to mirror the above part already "knotted" by marking it and clicking on a button... life could be so easy...

There's another point on my wishlist, though: Why not offer an edit option where you can only play around with colours? So, you have many different patterns on this site. Why not offer the option to play around with the colours involved? If you want to do this, people could publish their color variations to each and every pattern. You could offer a link pointing from each 'original' patterns to its differently coloured 'siblings'? Sometimes, you can archieve very interesting effects by using different colors. (And, yes, it's an idea I shamelessly copied from Marina Ulmer's site.)

Good Luck ;-)

I've read every reply concerning your generator and i do agree that lots of additional colours will be great. When can it be available? i'd really like to try it...

RE: Generator 2.0 by Candie 15 years ago

I've noticed that pattern #1568 is a wider pattern than is normally available to generate. (34 threads or 17 knots) Is this just a fluke or can we now make wider patterns on your generator?

maybe when your looking at the pattern you can change the colors

Oh, so many hints for the new generator.. I'm sorry that I gave up this project in the end of last summer when I also started this forum thread. My studies takes so much of my spare time :P

I can now inform you that I started it again. Generator 2.0 is made in java and it WORKS already. It is not stable yet, but when it is somewhat stable I will upload a BETA version here so you can try it ^^

I can't wait to play with the new generator. I hope it's much easier than the current one. I have so much trouble with it.
