But, here is what I think you are asking...

The arrows tell you which way the strings should go. At the bottom of each pattern, there is a guide to tell you how to do the knots. If an arrow is facing the right, it is a forward-knot.

If you need any more help, please ask. I have just recently figured out these patterns so I'm semi-new too.
