Is there a difference by Alicia434 11 years ago

When you are making alphas, it says that you need a description and keywords. Is there really a difference?

RE: Is there a difference by Kestrel 11 years ago

Yes. You can't search for an alpha by description, nor a normal - you can only search via keywords.

RE: Is there a difference by Alicia434 11 years ago

I know but what is the point of a description then?

RE: Is there a difference by Kestrel 11 years ago

Because keywords are meant to be short, single words, to link the pattern with others. For instance, a Christmas tree pattern - Christmas, tree, December.

Yet in a description, you wouldn't write "Christmas, tree, December". You'd write "a Christmas tree pattern".

RE: Is there a difference by Alicia434 11 years ago

ok but isnt the pattern showing that already

RE: Is there a difference by Kestrel 11 years ago

That would do no good if someone didn't know what a Christmas tree was, and as such didn't know what they were looking at.

RE: Is there a difference by Alicia434 11 years ago

oh ok

RE: Is there a difference by ririttt 11 years ago

Actually, I don't think that's true.
For example if you search for 'Arismende', and click on pattern #59257, you'll see there is only the word 'Arismende' in the description.

RE: Is there a difference by Kestrel 11 years ago

Indeed - but that's done as a general search, it's not done via the patterns pages (or specifically for a pattern).

RE: Is there a difference by ririttt 11 years ago

Oh yes - but over there it says Matching keywords..., so it seemed kind of obvious that it would only be a search for keywords.
