Making a normal pattern with generator 1 is really just luck for me. Its kind of hard to think about all of the knots and everything. For generator 2, change the colors first. Foward backward knots and backward foward knots change string mostly but foward and backward knots are good for zigzags. Generator 3 is pretty easy. The top plus and minus signs are for adding strings and the bottom are for adding rows. The little red dots are for changing colors. Hope this helps. There are some tutorials if you are confused.
