Thread Collections: Show 'em off! by Carrie 13 years ago

I'm interested in seeing everyone else's thread collection. It might give others some good idea's on how to organize theirs! Here's mine:
Box one: Pinks, Reds, Oranges, Yellows:

Box two: Greens, Teals, some Blues:

Box three: Blues, Purples, Magentas, Varigated:
http://i53.tinypic.com/2gwtgm8.jpg
Box four: Browns, Neutrals, misc. that need to be sorted back into their boxes:

They're organized first by general color, then by how many inches are left. If you look closely, the bobbins have number on them in pencil. It's not the color of the skein, but rather the number of inches left. Since no skein is exactly the same length, I have to hand count it before I put it on the bobbin. I make my bobbins by hand now, because I simply can't afford to keep buying a ton of them. I have some hard plastic ones for alphas, but other than that I trade them and cut them out from Honey Nut Cherrio's boxes (strongest and thinnest cardboard I've found) or ink cartridge boxes.

I have OCPD, so I don't expect anyone to have quite such an organized collection. :p

Mine isn't sorted that well ;)

It looked like this two months ago:

But my collection has grown a bit since then, I got some 130+ more skeins of embroidery floss, so now I have separate bags for blue and purple. I also now have a bag for colors that I can't get again and where only one to two meters are left.

holy sh-- carrie, you're amazing! I can't seem to find appropriate words to express just how awesome your thread collection is, as well as your means of organising it! suffice it to say that I won't be posting any pictures of my unorganised mess :-D

Lol! I can't picture anything you posses being messy :p Rissa, I still have a few bags like that that need to be sorted.

The first picture is my favourite and complete colours - they are stored in the DMC stitch bow inserts and binder.

The darice box has any hand dyed silks, variegated ones, duplicates, and part skeins. Like Carrie I have them marked with the amount left, I have the shade number on there too.

All I need to do now is make something lol.

Your thread collection is impressive! Did you hand dye those skeins, or did you buy them somewhere?

RE: Thread Collections: Show 'em off! by fbmagic 13 years ago

Holy crap carrie! Where did you get so much stinking thread! Please tell me I'm running low! I store mine the same way but I have a lot in bags that I need to put on bobbins. But I only have dark colors now and they all tend to be the same and I need to find somewhere, where I can buy a TON of skeins for like idk maybe 10 bucks? Got any help? Thats amazing! YOu inspired me!

Hobby Lobby has it for 35 cents per skein, and I heard somewhere that Joanne's has DMC for like 10 cents a skein...I need to start shopping at Joanne's :)
