Yes. I have DMC petra size 5, which should be the same size as embroidery floss. It is twisted like pearl cotton btw.
Most other crochet yarn is thicker, the size 10 is thinner.

I do not know of this will help or no as thi post is a bit older, but...
I work in mostly size 10 crochet thread and have found that 4 to 5 strands of embordery floss is about the same size depending on the brand.
