but my braid is getting all twisted and is not keeping straight. it has a weird zigzag. Any tips?

It's always about tension. I haven't made a lot of flat kumihimos, so I'm not very experienced, but I always had trouble keeping them straight. Some patterns are easier than others. The patterns where you turn your plate are easier, these kumis are also a bit thicker.

You'll need to find out which strings need to be tighter and and which ones need to be less tight.
And don't forget to put weight on the kumihimo! Without a weight it'll never be straight.

Thanks. I have the made the disk out of a piece of sponge. Maybe that is making the threads loose. I will try with a cardboard disc.
