After all these years of pushing around my sheets of squared grid paper (with these x-large squares) in awkwardly tilted ways or viewing them somehow diagonally from the side, I did an extensive Google search today and found that what I was looking for is actually called "crosshatch paper".
Plus I stumbled upon this site that meets the needs of any designer in the habit of doing sketches of specific normal pattern features on paper first: it allows you to print out or download or PDF grids with squares arranged in that desired tilted fashion any size you like:
