Can anyone put a pattern on that is like a checkered flag the whole way through the bracelet? It would be a great help! I'd like to make a birthday present like that for my cousin who has a boyfriend who races.

Why not use pattern #1189 and skip the outermost threads? Direct link:

Just ignore the two leftmost and the two rightmost threads and you have a black/white checkered pattern.

Well, I was thinking more like 2 blocks per thing and alternating it each time you finish a set of blocks.
