Introduction

Hey everyone I thought I'd post another tutorial for you guys. This was another of the very first bracelets I learnt to make called Tarata. It's a very simple 8 string bracelet and it only requires backward knots. This bracelet is very quick and you only need to learn 2 rows. It takes 8 rows before the colours go back to how they were at the start and as always plenty of step by step pictures for you guys :D

Materials and Set Up

To start this bracelet you will need 8 strings of 4 colours.
For this tutorial I've used the colours: red, green, blue and yellow.
Here I've arranged the colours in the following order: G G B B Y Y R R
Like so....

To start this and to make it easier separate the colour groups so you have 2 green, 2 blue 2 yellow and 2 red.

Step by Step

Step 1

For this bracelet every new row starts on the right so with your red string make a backward knot over them like so.

Now take your yellow strings and also make a backward knot over the yellow.

And then do the same with the same with the blue and the green. Then it should look something like this.

Step 2

Now the easy bit as I call it starting on the right with your red. Here you want to do a line of red like in a normal striped bracelet. Using the red make a backward knot over the red and continue in a stripe down the other colours.

And hopefully if I haven't confused you your bracelet should like this this.

Your strings should then be in the following order: R G G B B Y Y R

Step 3

And that's the only 2 rows you need to repeat this pattern but I will show you how it works. Like you did with the first row split your threads in groups of 2 to save confusion.

Step 4

Remember starting from the right make a backwards knot using the red, this time over the yellow. And then the yellow over the blue etc...

And do the same with the blue and green.

If you look carefully 4 strings never move away from their original location. these are creating the single knot colours and the other 4 strings are creating the stripes going down and across.

Step 5

Now back on the right with the yellow as you did with the red you want to make backward knots over all the colours again and the it should look like this with the strings arranged as: Y G R B G Y B R

Step 6

Again keep your 4 groups together. starting on the right again create a backward knot over each group for the first row and then a line of colour of the 2nd.

After 8 rows and finishing with the green stripe your colours will go back to how we had at the start.

Step 7

Just simply keep repeating these steps to achieve something that will look like this when it's finished :)

Just remember as long as you remember the first 2 rows and keep repeating those 2 you will be fine. And this is also good for practising your backward knots too.
Due to the nature of this bracelet it will curl up. That's a natural thing for this bracelet no matter how tight or loose you do the knots.
This pattern can also be done on forward knots, you just start from the left instead of the right :)
