Introduction

Round 4 strand braids are usually used with leather, para cord, and plastic craft lace. It is one of my favorite ways to end a friendship bracelet or it can stand alone. It is fast and easy to do once you get used to it.

Note: if the pictures don't help there is a video from TIAT at the end of this tutorial.

I will be using 4 different colors (one color per strand) so that it will be easier to follow my instructions. I will put up different patterns and some links to other tutorials at the end.

Step by Step

Step 1

I have assigned each strand a letter, , , , and .
Start by taking strand and crossing it over both strands and .

Step 2

The strands should now be arranged
Take Strand and cross it over strand

Step 3

The strands should now be arranged
Take Strand and pass it over both strands and .

Step 4

The strands should now be arranged
Take Strand and cross it over strand

Step 5

The strands should now be arranged
Take strands into the left hand and strands into the right and tighten the braid.
(Make sure you don't mix the strands up!)

Step 6

Take strand and cross over strands and .

Step 7

The strands should be arranged
Take strand and pass it over strand .

Step 8

The strands should be arranged
Take strand and cross over strands and .

Step 9

The strands should be arranged
Take strand and pass it over strand .

Step 10

The strands should now be arranged
Take strands into the left hand and strands into the right and tighten the braid.

Step 11

Start again from #1 and repeat pattern until desired length ....

Variations

There are different ways to arrange the colors you start off with that give you other patterns
for example lay out your strands 1 1 2 2 and you will create what is called the diamond stitch braid.

If you lay out your colors 1 2 2 1 you will get a spiral effect
