Double peruvian wave by jessinha 6 years ago

Hi. I found the material some nylon strings to make the double perivian wave, similar as the ones you buy from peru inca. Only the basestring i havent got the right material and i found out the ones i use after a week the strings are not nice anymore. The waves dont stay in shape.
Any idea what material it is i can use for that? Or where i can buy it? I m not looking for the string to make the waves but the string to add the waves to.
The ones i bought on markets and store i like to find.

I tried some other stuff. Some sort of silk which cones with the packages for kids to make these bracelets. I also tried some cotton 2.5 mm

Hope anyone can help. Thx

Just a little add to this message.
I found the inside of a paracord looks a bit like the string i m looking for. But what could it be?

The inside of a paracord is probably nylon. Similar strings are used a lot for making kumihimos. I think most people call it macrame-cord.

But if the wave doesn?t stay in shape it could also be because the knots loosen up, and in that case I?d suggest to use less slippery strings for the knots. Nylon is very slippery!
Or the loose strings should be shorter, to make a more curvy wave and prevent the inside string from becoming straight. Peruvian waves are tricky :-)

I think i bought macrame cord but its also not working for that.
Any idea how i can find a good cord for that? Or where to buy it. I guess u are from netherlands as well or not? If u know what kind of cord is good for it and where to get it let me know.
For the waves itself i use the nylon thread from the peru inca market.

So i need to make them very tight then ?

Yes, I?m from the Netherlands :-)
The best cord I can think of are hemp or waxed polyester. Waxed polyester can only be bought online, it?s not available within the Netherlands.
And hemp is also a bit hard to find. You could also try waxed cotton maybe. I never used that myself. I also haven?t made a lot of Peruvian waves. I don?t really like making them.

The loose strings are what keeps the wavy shape in the base-strings, so they shouldn?t be too long.

Oh i love these bracelets. I always buy them on holidays. Anyways the waxed cord i tried but its not great for this. I have linhasita here. I will maybe try the hemp. Thx
