Flat braid coming out lumpy on one side? by Bingo 6 years ago

I just started making flat braids from a tutorial by Knack for Knots on Youtube (vid below). The first one came out fairly lumpy and uneven on one side and almost straight on the other. I chalked it up to just being my first time and I probably got distracted and didn't count correctly doing the backwards forwards knots, but the second one I'm trying now is giving me the same results. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

The link to the video is not working. What sequence / pattern did you use? I have been experimenting with flat kumihimos a few years ago and at the moment I?m a bit obsessed with them again :-) It makes a huge difference what kind of flat kumi you are making, the thicker ones are much easier to keep straight than the flat ones. Of course it?s all about even tension for both though. The ones I am making right now need to be pulled pretty tight, the chevron-pattern I made (see tutorial) is braided less tight and still fairly straight.
I?m still also in the learning-phase ;-)

I just searched on YouTube and the bracelet you made seems to be knotted, not braided, so ignore my previous comment ....

The other side of your bracelet is probably better than the side shown? Candystripes are always a bit harder than chevrons because you always knot one way. And most people knot tighter to for instance the right than to the left, that?s probably why one border is better than the other.
Just keep trying and try to keep an even tension.

Yes I'm not sure why my link wasn't working but knotted is correct! And yeah, one side is...well not perfect but a LOT better looking than the other side. I'm trying to remember now which side the lumpy one was on and can't remember. I believe it was the right side that was lumpy. So I'm probably doing that side too tight basically?

Thank you so much for your response, this next time I'm going to try to keep the tension consistent all the way around. (:
