Alpha bracelet question by jessinha 6 years ago

I try to make a bracelet using the alpha pattern generator. So i have 7 rows of for example white as the text colour i use a blue string for the background. But i want to make 2 borders in green. So i use 2 extra green ones.
I wonder how can i avoid that the outher green strings are looking much bigger and role a bit towards the middle.
Its a bit hard to explain. Which knots should i do to get 2 green lined at the end ? Any idea? I tried if i go from left to right start 2 backward knots then the rest forward...backwards on white text. Then 2 forward with blue and to get green i do 2 backwards with green. Then next row i go right to left. I start 2 forward knots with green and then the backwards in blue.
The bracelet looked ok but now it looks like the green is curling to the center. Any idea how to avoid this? That it looks all flat.
I cant upload a pic since my pictures are too many mb.

I'm not quite sure if I get what you mean, but in alphas you always knot one row forward knots, next row backward knots, next row forward knots, etc.
Only when you use a base-string for a knot (which you never do when using the substitution method) you use the opposite knot , opposite from the other knots in the same row that is.

It's probably the tension btw. If I read it right you're doing base-string knots on the edges, which is not preferred, and which probably makes it very hard to keep flat. ... You could try linking to a picture here, via TinyPic for example.

Yes in your first message that part i understood.
I made a bracelet with a name. I took white letters and blue blackground. But i wanted a green border line on the bottom and on the top.
Like this

Green
Blue
Blue white text
Blue
Green

I tried now twice to make it like this.
I used the white cord in the middle. Then very long blue for the background and in stead of 2 white i used green for borders.
But how can i best knot the borders ?

I tried first row. Forward back ward with green on the blue cord. Then i did the forward knots on the white cords with blue. Then i did a backward forward knot with green on blue.
But i dont think my borders look nice.

Its hard to explain. What are base string knots?

Have you read this tutorial about making multicolored alphas? I'd always recommend the substitution method where you never make knots with the base-strings.
