Japanese patterns by amineko72 7 years ago

I have several books of Japanese friendship bracelets patterns but I have notice that the bracelet is knotted on what we could go the "wrong side" of the bracelet. Could someone tell me how to "convert" the patterns especially the alpha ones ?
thx

The 'wrong' side is considered to be the 'good' side in most other macrame crafts. It's the backside of the knots we use for alphas and friendshipbracelets, that's all. You don't have to convert, you only have to teach yourself how to knot the knots upside down.

thank you for your reply but how do I knot up side down ?

You'll have to learn yourself by doing it. Make a half hitch (=half a normal knot) and look at it from the other side.
Lots of YouTube videos also show the knots 'upside down'.
I haven't made multicolor alphas that way yet, so I don't know the best way to add strings yet. Two-colored alphas can be knotted like normal and turned upside down after you've finished it. You might need to mirror the pattern, but that's all that differs.
