I have a list of DMC colors and none are actually called purple! Which sahdesdo you use for purple? I use violet right now. Theres lavender and grape, too.

Numbers 550 - 554 are shades of "Violet" and 208 - 211 are shades of Lavender. There is also #327 which is "antique violet - dark"

"Purple" is somewhere between red and blue and is a hard color to pin down.

#552 "Violet - dark" is a good choice for "standard purple". #550 "Violet - very dark" is a deep rich color especially in good light. The other colors are nice too depending on how you are using them (i.e. the mix of colors you are using in your design).

If you can, go to a craft store that carries DMC floss and look at the colors in person. There is really no substitute for a direct comparison with the string in your own hands.

I use 550 which I have as very dark violet. I was thinking of using a lighter shade as a regular color for purple. Just not sure which to go with. I don't like the Grape shades. I have 552 listed as medium violet. I guess I'll have to check the craft store again. Maybe the floss color list I have is a bit outdated.
Thanks for the input, EdBlair!
