What items are a MUST to begin? by AprilDawn 8 years ago

Hello, so my name is April and I have a friend who recently showed me the bracelets she's made in the past but she told me she can't get her huge kit of stuff from her parents place... Loads of drama there and such. And her birthday is coming up and though I'm pretty broke at the moment, I wanted to try and put together some sort of "kit" that should get her through for a while once I have the $ to do so. So basically I have no idea where to start. My friend mentioned that she could work with as little as the thread and a clipboard but I really don't know where to start even with that info.

What are some things you guys consider musts?

What type of thread/floss should I be looking for?

What other tools of the trade are necessary?

Is there a particular type of container that lends itself to storing supplies for bracelet making?

Um... gosh, I'm out of questions for now. Heck if I wasn't already halfway between several other types of "crafts" of my own, I would take up this. Heck, maybe I still will.

If there is any other advice you guys can give me, I would really appreciate it. This is going to be a belated birthday present for my friend. Thanks!

A clipboard and DMC or Anchor embroidery floss (or crochet yarn) is all you need to get started. A needle can come in handy sometimes to undo mistake knots, and ofcourse you need scissors.
That's about it :-) The more string, the better :-)

Thank you so much, kleinevos.

If you've only got little cash you could start with none name brand threads too - friendship bracelet threads in a large bulk pack. You can buy these from a craft store pretty cheaply.

You can get a cheap clip board from a stationery store like Staples, Office Depot or the like. And a container, you can just use an old shoe box or clean ice cream tub for free!

But this craft is just knotting strings, so you don't need tools to do it ;)

Yeah I think you only need a thread and a clipboard. I use DMC thread and my clipboard is a wooden one the one, ones that have a full clip are better so the thread can't slip through. (I don't know if that made sense about the clipboard) other accessories are probably a good pair of scissors and a ruler. Hope that helps, you are doing a great thing for your friend. :)
