Accepting and rejecting patterns - the checking process by Arismende 9 years ago

Happy new year from the mod-team again, everyone! - We're already excited to see many brilliant new creations by you in 2015 and also looking forward to host one or another swap again, this year :)

Since there where some open complaints about rejected patterns in the guestbook and forum lately, we'd like to use the opportunity to explain to you, how the pattern-checking process works. First of all, no pattern gets lost on this site. You always have access to your rejected patterns on your profile: /Pending - rejected - (normal - alpha - kumihimo) - show/. In general, there are always only a handful of moderators available on the site to check the patterns, but nevertheless, we check every single one of them, also to add similars during the process and to make sure, the pattern is not a duplicate. However, there are some kinds of patterns, like simple shapes (turtle, anchor, star, hearts), chevron, candystripe, diamonds, which we already have in numerous variations. To make sure that other beautiful patterns don't get lost in the depths of the gallery and though to make the choice of patterns attractive for a widely ranged community (from newbies to advanced knotters), it's necessary to reject the very simple patterns (also name-, word- and letter patterns) or those, which are too similar to other existing ones, unless they have something unique about them. Those decisions are always taken by at least three mods, who leave their vote and thoughts about the pending pattern in the comments for 24 hours (sometimes it takes longer!), until it will be accepted or rejected. Please note that our decisions are never meant to be personal for or against a certain user or style of creation, but always practical in the sense of keeping the site running as best as we can.

We sometimes also reconsider rejected patterns when a photo is uploaded. Then it goes to the pending section again for a second mod vote. In this case, and in general, you can always use the report button on the pattern's page to let us know or send a PM to one of the mods.

Happy knotting!
