Can I hire someone to make bracelets? by SuesSuggies 10 years ago

I don't know if this is allowed, and I don't even know if someone would be willing, but I'd like to pay someone to make bracelets for me. I run a business and I have a bracelet that I'd like to sell, but I just don't have the time to make them nor am I very fast at it. So I was hoping maybe if there was someone who has spare time that'd like to make bracelets for me, that would be awesome. You won't make a lot, but if someone really likes doing it, then the extra cash would just be a bonus.
The bracelet is an advanced multi color alpha pattern, do you need to be proficient in those. I'd only be able to pay like $2 a bracelet, otherwise I couldn't make anything. I'll pay shipping too, payment will be done through paypal. I'm in the USA, so I need someone that is USA based too.
I know that this is a long shot, but If anyone is interested please pm me, I would be very greatful for any help.

First of all : This place is not for selling bracelets. A lot of the users here do have an etsy-shop or something like that. You can go to the link-section to find them.

Second: It takes a LOT of time to knot a bracelet, an alpha takes even more time than a normal one. So if anyone out here is willing to make you one for only 2 dollars, that person is crazy . . . . .

So you want to sell handmade bracelets, for profit, but you don't want to hand make them yourself?

There are easier and better business ventures out there. You may as well have titled your post "anyone want to be my slave?".

Besides link section, there's another place you can go! ;) You should be ashamed yourself.

how can you even ask for someone to be proficient at making advanced multicolour alphas, and then only want to pay them $2?? you must be out of your mind.

U guys could be a little kinder with your replies.. at the end of the day its just a question. A no could have worked just as well..

I don't think they realise just how offensive it is to even request something like that. a no may work too, but I don't want any young person falling for this kind of exploitative scheme because we weren't clear enough in our response.

You guys are super rude, wether you think it's "offensive " or not, you have no right to talk to me like this. If someone wants to make them because they like to and get a little cash along with it who are you to say that it's not worth it? If you aren't interested then don't reply, don't attack me for something like this. There are a lot of nicer ways to say you don't think that is fair.

I would agree with the others against someone taking you up on your offer. A multi-color alpha would take several hours to knot. In the US, the minimum wage is 8/hr. Offering to pay someone less than that is wrong, and if you are truly doing this as a business venture, potentially illegal as well. I would suggest to the OP that you rethink your offer, and if you're selling bracelets at such a low price, to re-think your pricing calculations too. Pricing too low not only hurts yourself(and is likely to make you broke!) but other sellers who would like to make a profit but cannot because there are people out there that are slashing the prices far too low.

OK, I've been pretty good about keeping my mouth shut and not getting involved with things that the Mods are here to handle. However this makes my blood boil and I need to get this out, so that I can calmly go back to knotting without trembling hands and a bad attitude. :(

So...
1. My comment was "G rated" and that's as nice as it gets for me. Especially, when I feel SO strongly about something like this.
2. Being TOO nice is why women generally earn less in the workplace than their male counterparts.
3. It's bad enough that this craft suffers from the stigma of being percieved as a 3rd world, poor person, hippie, campfire, schoolgirl, novelty craft. Knotting, like weaving and stitching, is one of the most important skills that delivered mankind from the stoneage. i.e. fishnets, sail rigging, crane rigging, bow strings, ect...
4. There are OVER 33,000 on-line shops that (try to) sell bracelets already. The market is completely flooded with people that think, just because they can simply reproduce a pattern that they can somehow turn it into a profitable bussiness and when they don't make sales, they drop their prices further to get rid of them. Killing the market before they move on to something else.
5. The independently run shops have to compete with "Dumping Prices" from "Sweat Shop" factories that underpay there artisans. Most are financed by major corporations and the meer fact that they exist at all is a SIN and goes is against Civil Rights.
6. The independently run shops ALSO have to compete with "Dumping Prices" from "Cause Groups" that underprice their "merchandise" in order to generate funds for venues and organisations that they could easily pay for out of their OWN pockets.
7. How much time and effort do you think it took to: A. Make this website? B. Devolop the Pattern Generators that makes most of what you see here possible? C. Cultivate a thriving community ? D. Manage it all?
8. What does it do for someone's self esteem when they work for hours or possibly days on something and they are told that it is basically worthless? The only way to add value to anything is through Respect, Edification and Empowerment.
9. The "Dumbest Question Ever" isn't the one you didn't ask. It's the one that gets you slapped for being SO fresh.
10. Bad things happen, when good people don't take a stand and do nothing.

@SuesSuggies - That's just the "TOP 10" and only a fraction of the "Whole List". Propositions like this are a cancer to the entire Craft. Plus, you have no Avatar or Info on your profile and using words like:"USA based", "nor am I very fast" That'd", and " Proficient"or having a PayPal account and offering to pay for shipping?? You are not an ignorant child that doesn't know any better. You are obviously an older adult that is overtly trying to use your money and this community to take advantage of others that are uneducated, unaware or less fortunate OR you're just a "TROLL". Either way, "Shame on you again and anyone else that does this." XP

@ greengrl26 - (with respect) Sorry but, "Nicely telling someone to stop raping, attacking, or stealing from you doesn't work!" This is why we sometimes need people who aren't always so nice. And you seem pretty cool so...Please, don't take this the wrong way. Just, ask yourself ..."Who is really worth defending here anyway?? " ;)

Nuff Said! Now, back to knotting amazing things for your viewing pleasure! :D
