How can I create a pattern from a picture?

some one please answer this,

ive been trying to create one too, I kinda know how.

print a pic,
turn 45 degres
draw a grid
use forward/backwards and backwards/forwards knots (1212 patter I think its called)

this will make a pattern but im yet to turn a pic into a pattern successfully as sometimes when a square is half one colour half the other then I never know what colour to make the knots.

so hopefully someone will reply.

When you want to turn a pic into a pattern it's much easier to make it an alpha, especially when it's multicolored. There is a tutorial that uses Paint. I've never tried it myself. I've been searching for apps and I found a few that will probably do the job. But I didn't make a real pattern yet.
