Use for Leftover Embroidery Floss by mjonquil13 10 years ago

Hi Everyone! I was wondering what you may do with the leftover floss after making a bracelet? I have accumulated a lot of it and was hoping for some ideas for some uses out of it.

I make little butterflies or turtles, or use them for alphas. I heard of some people using them for stuffing puppets or something like that.

I am not sure how to do the Alphas yet and I dont stuff anything so how do you do your butterflies and turtles? Ive seen pictures but would love a tutorial or pattern or whatever. Thank you!!!

I save two lengths of scraps. Strands that are as long as my arm and strands that are longer to about an arm and a half/three-quarters. Scientific, I know. If it's not at least an arm's length, I likely can't use it for a bracelet so it gets tossed. The longer strands are long enough for most bracelets up to about 20 strings or so. If I have two of the same color, I can criss-cross under a buckle, otherwise, it can be used for odd strand bracelets. The shorter ones come in handy for smaller bracelets 10-12 strings or so and sometimes larger bracelets if you have strings that are onl used for a few knots in a pattern. As kleinevos mentioned, they can be used for Alphas and just recently, I used scraps for extending strings that ended up too short.

oh I so need to learn how to extend the short ones too. I have issues with that.

They could be used for many minor projects. I use my leftovers for making bracelet buckles at the top, closures, smaller bracelet patterns, alpha background strings etc and lot many more. I prefer not throwing them out cuz they do come in handy from time to time :)

The first one is for the butterflies, the second for the turtles.
Right now I 'm making a (very small)wallhanger and my scraps come in very handy for finishing the edges around it!

You could take one on the longer pieces and if it fits around your wrist great angle with the smaller ones start making a Chinese staircase-you could also just tale a fresh piece of string and use scrap on that
Hope this helped
