Keeping things sraight by Dees 14 years ago

I just started with what are more complicated patters to me. I'm doing pattern #1188 and I'm having a really hard time keeping all the colours in the order they're supposed to be in, because there is a lot of the same colour blue and I'm going crazy!
I've taken everything out for the 3rd time now and I just wanted to know if any of you more experienced bracelet makers have any advice as far as keeping everything in order.

Please help, tips would be extremely appreciated!

Thanks a bunch!
~Dees

P.S. I do have somewhat of a time limit on this bracelet, I'm trying to be finished with it by next Monday, which should be no problem once I get past the first few rows.

When I have my bracelet clipped to a clipboard, I first start with all the bracelet's threads on the right and as I finish each knot, I toss it simply over to my left and once I reach to the end of the row, I just grab all the threads on the left and bring them back over to the right and start over

When I need to put it away, I take any on the left and wrap it around the board widthwise and the ones on the right lengthwise to keep track which thread is which. I hope this helps

Thanks :-) It definitely does help.

Do you or your mom have a freezer bag clip?
You know, the rather big plastic things that can be used to close the bag (I don't know if this is the right word...).

When I start my bracelet I usually make a big knot at one end, then add the clip directly below the knot. I put a safety pin through the knot and put it through my jeans.

Now the sorting begins. Every time I move a thread there's a small "snap", the threads won't change position after that.

The clip will keep threads sorted and is a perfect way to keep the first row totally straight.
If I additionally want to be on the safe side I make the first row of knots like Kaisui_Izumi said, but after that I don't go straight row by straight row, but knot diagonally like I always did as I prefer to do things this way.

After some centimeters I remove the clip as it is not needed any more.

I know that you've already started, but maybe you can use that for the next bracelet if you find such a clip.

hey - i found a really cool thing that will help keep everything straight, has precut threads, needs no pins, tape, etc. my friend told me about it and i luv it :-) they don't have in stores yet but you can get it at a few places like ebay, etsy or it has it's own site called www.myfbm.com. it's like a tool to help keep you organized and it's cute and portable 2 :-) let me know if anyone tries it. it is really easy and it is sooo helpful!

I got one from a girl I know and her uncle created the thing so she has a bunch lying around and she gave me one for free!! I started using it automatically I stopped messing up! Like normally I would have to try a pattern 3 or 4 times taped down or on a clipboard but with this I only mess up 1 time out of about every 10 bracelets! It helps tremendosly and they have a whole line of them plus a website www.myfbm.com with lots of patterns and tutorials. They just started doing alphas on there but I would reccomend starting with a clipboard for that for straighter lines but you can always transefer your bracelet. The also have a thing for kuhiminos too!! I would really suggest getting it!!
