Craft Thread vs Embroidery Floss? by IHeartJDB 13 years ago

Im going to buy some more string today but I'm not sure if i should buy craft thread or embroidery floss? If there a difference between the two? Which one will make my bracelets turn out better?

Embroidery floss, 100%. It's more expensive, but there's typically a luster to it, and it won't break. I use DMC. Craft thread breaks for me all the time.

I have fraying on the very ends usually, but it doesn't ever impede with making the bracelet. Try pearle cotton though, that doesn't fray.

I always use craft thread, but thats because I find the packages to have better colours. I don't know if i'm being delusional but I could never find the right colours with embroidary floss. But thats just me :P

Although, embroidery floss is a lot more stronger than craft thread because of its better quality material.

@blahitslizz please don't spam. It makes me cranky and I'm sure it makes the moderators cranky as well. You can submit your website to the links section of the site if you want.

At the end of the day it is personal preference. I've tried wool, craft thread and embroidery floss in all shapes and sizes pearl included.

I've always preferred embroidery floss for many reasons the man one being i find it easier to work with say compared to thicker threads. Although i know some people who think the thicker the thread the easier to see mistakes etc.

It really is what ever works for you and what gives you the results you like more :)
I've learnt and tried many over the years and i keep a selection of different shades/colours/types like pearl etc but what Carrie says is true, the more investment you put in the threads such as DMC or Anchor you get that sheen to it that some cheaper versions don't have, although i've used budget threads with no problems in the past :)

Go with whatever your comfortable and happy with be it price range colour or simply the effect that the thread gives you :)
